It ensures that your wishes are known and that your survivors will be spared making last-minute decisions under stress in those sorrowful hours after your death. Pre-planning is a concrete sign of your love for surviving family members because your advance planning will give your family the guidance they need to feel comfortable that they are carrying out the decisions you made.

There are also financial benefits to pre-planning. Pre-planning may prevent disagreement among survivors at an emotionally charged time and can assure that emotional over-spending does not occur. By preplanning and prefunding cemetery and funeral arrangements, you may be creating exempt assets should you ever have to go on public assistance. By purchasing in advance, you are ensuring a space for you and your family in a sacred space.

New Orleans Catholic Cemeteries offers a complimentary “Family Records Guide” to any family interested. The “Family Records Guide” enables individuals to place their funeral, burial, financial and other post-mortem information in one location so their survivors do not have to speculate about the wishes of the deceased.
